Artist's Statement:

In the last year I have been making paintings about the things I see in my everyday life and sometimes I wonder if it’s ok to focus on these moments amid the din of the world. Then I’m reminded of ‘Paris in Ruins’ by Sebastian Smee, in which he describes artists who turned away from “the delusional ravings of men” and instead painted the world “as it met their eyes in the here-and-now.” Their matter-of-fact attention to ordinary experience, despite the noise of history, resonates, and I’m very happy to borrow this excuse from the early impressionists.
