'Juukan Gorge'

'Juukan Gorge'

oil on canvas 40x50cm framed

by Cameron Morton

In this work, a small cut-away section of landscape sits beside an oversized bottle of milk and a mining haul truck, observed by miniature figures below. The skewed scale highlights tension between land, industry, and consumption. The title 'Juukan Gorge' references the 2020 destruction of a 46,000-year-old sacred Aboriginal site during mining excavation, adding a pointed layer to the scene.
