JENNY TURNER

ABOUT JENNY TURNER

A working life in fulfilling but all-consuming jobs, along with raising her daughter, meant there
was little time to engage her creative talents until she retired five years ago. Adopting the mantra
of carpe diem, Jenny began developing her lifelong interest in painting. Without the benefit of
formal training, she continued her self-education into artists and art movements but the
inspiration she found in the Dutch Renaissance masters remained a profound constant and the
style she most sought to emulate. She has spent the last five years developing her understandings
of composition and balance, light and shadow, colour and texture and growing her technical skill
in the medium of acrylics. Today she lives in beautiful Blackheath in the Blue Mountains,
working in her kitchen ‘studio’.
Genre and Process
For Jenny, the appeal of the still-life genre is manifold. It offers both the artist and the viewer the
opportunity for quiet reflection. In elevating everyday objects, the genre requires a slowing down
to notice and be absorbed by the beauty and balance that exist in the ordinary. Her joy in the
process begins with a vision followed by constantly evolving and refining approaches that work
to resolve the myriad issues as they arise. This nuanced process is by turns meditative and
thrilling, with the finished piece delivering a sense of satisfaction. Jenny’s works are a
contemporary take on the renaissance tradition, containing both drama and subtlety in their
lighting, balance in their subjects and an expression of her love-language – colour.
