GABRIELLE COLLINS

ABOUT GABRIELLE COLLINS

Currently living on the mid north coast my early formative years were spent living in Sydney and as such I have a nostalgia for certain areas of the inner city and harbour foreshore. This has been the catalyst for a number of previous exhibitions in Sydney and regionally. Other non-urban exhibitions however have developed out of various artist trips. I have been painting the landscape for over 25 yrs. My work is largely observational,
and I am striving to create paintings which evoke the atmosphere and feeling of having passed through a particular area. The use of photos and memory are important elements in the creative process.
This results in a painting that often varies from the original scene in composition, colour and scale depending on the added layers of memory.

I have a degree in Agricultural Science, Fine Arts and a Diploma in Education and have taught science and fine arts subjects at schools and TAFE while being a practicing artist. My exhibitions both solo and group over the last 26 years have been in regional and metropolitan galleries, most recently in Sydney. Awards include being a finalist in the Parliament House Plein Air prize over a number of years and the Country Energy prize. My work is held in the collections of Macquarie Bank, The Australia Club, New England and Tamworth regional galleries and Mosman gallery.
